Mr Des van Jaarsveld

When you approach any competition in any sport, you always encounter these three varying approaches. Some people get run over and are left to ponder about their preparation. The winners are those who make things happen through hard work and determination.

Des van Jaarsveld was born on 27 May 1939. He is married to Sally. Des achieved Free State A-team Colours on 13 occasions, from 1966-1979 and he also achieved his Free State Shore Angling Colours in 1976 & 1977.

Des achieved Springbok Colours during 1981, 1983 & 1987.

As an angler Des were crowed Free State Champion for 2 years in succession

As administrator, Des served on the Free State Provincial Council for 36 years over the period 1972 to 2008. He served as Publicity Officer, Competition Secretary, Provincial Secretary, Convener of the Selection Committee, President of Free State Angling Union.

Des served on the SAFBAF National Council for 34 years over the period 1980 to 2014 as administrator on SAFBAF Management level. He served as Convener of National Selection Committee, Secretary, Vice President and President.

Mr Fred Visagie

Fred Visagie was born in Johannesburg on 26 February 1945. Fred passed away during 2011. He was married to Anna.

As administrator, Fred served on the Western Transvaal Angling Union Council as secretary for 4years, Chairman for 9years and Patron for 2years. Fred also served on the Central North West Provincial Council as Vice President and selector for 5years.

Fred served on the South-African Sport Anglers & Casting Confederation National Council as Treasurer for 4years and Vice President for 4years.

Fred served on the SAFBAF National Council for 13 years over the period 1998 to 2011 as administrator on SAFBAF Management level. He served as Convenor of Junior Section, Secretary and National Selector.

Mr Johann van Heerden

There are plenty of talented people in the world. As you already know, talent is not enough. Some of the athletes with the most potential never pan out. What separates the good from the great is determination and work ethic.

Johann van Heerden was born in Durban on the 28th August 1948. He is married to Christie.
Johann achieved Western Transvaal and then Central Northwest A-team Colours on 34 occasions, from 1973-2005 and he also achieved Central Northwest B-team Colours on 2 Occasions in Freshwater Angling.

Johann also achieved Central Northwest A Carp Angling team (2006 – 2012) & Masters A-team Colours (1999-2019). Johann participated in excess of 86 National Championships while representing provincial teams.

Johann achieved Springbok Colours for Freshwater Bank Angling during 1986, 1988 & 1989. Johann also achieved Protea Colours for Carp Angling during 2008 to 2011 and 2019. As the Protea Carp Angling Team Captain, the team were crowned as World Champions during 2008 to 2011 and 2019.

As administrator, Johann served on the Western Transvaal and then Central Northwest Provincial Council for 37 years over the period 1975 to 2012. He served in various positions which ended as Chairman of the Province.

Johann serves on the SAFBAF National Council over the period 1989 to the current year (2020) as administrator on SAFBAF Management level. He served as Conservation Officer, Vice President, Convener of National Selection Committee and President.

Mr Teus Bezuidenhout

Teus was born in Pietermaritzburg on 18 October 1966.

Teus achieved Kwazulu Natal and Gauteng Colours on 50 occasions, from 1982-2016 in Bank Angling and Match Angling. Teus represented his Provincial A-team 24 times and was awarded Protea/Masters SASACC team Colours 17 times.

As administrator, Teus served on the Provincial Management for 15 years over the period 2005 to 2019. He served in various positions as Vice-Chairman and Selector.

At SAFBAF administrative level Teus served between 2008-2018 as National Selecter.

Mrs Elsa Kleynhans

Elsa was born in Bloemfontein on 14 February 1959 and is married to Charlie.

Elsa joined Western Holdings Angling Club in 1991 and has served as Secretary of the club and their district several times since then.

Elsa was also elected on several occasions from 1993-2021 as the Secretary of the FSBAA Ladies, Juniors and Officials Committees, as well as Convener. Elsa is currently the Secretary of the FSBAA and has served on the Free State's provincial management for the past 28 years.

At SAFBAF administrative level Elsa was first elected for a SAFBAF Management/Administrative position in 2011 and has since then served on the Ladies Committee, as Secretary of the Ladies Committee and is currently the Convener of the Ladies Committee.

Mr Spinks Van Heerden

Spinks was born on 8 September 1962 in Koppies.His life partner is Ilonke Lawrence.

Spinks started his competitive angling career in 1985 as a member of Bloemfontein Defense Force Angling Club. Spinks served as Secretary and as Chairman of the Club.

At Provincial administrative level, Spinks was elected as the FSBAA Conservation Officer, FSBAA Convener of the Ladies' Committee, FSBAA Secretary and as the FSBAA President. Spinks was also elected as Free State Selector and later as Convener of the FSBAA Selection Committee.

At SAFBAF administrative level, Spinks was elected as SAFBAF Conservation Officer and as Secretary of the SAFBAF Masters Committee and is currently also a National Selector.

Mr Johan Donald

Johan Donald was born in Vanderbijlpark on 29 April 1957. He is married to Marie.

At Provincial administrative level, Johan served on the Gauteng Management for 15 years, from 1995 - 2010 as Treasurer, League-Organizer and Vice-Chairman.

At SAFBAF administrative level, Johan was elected as SAFBAF Treasurer in 1999 and prepared the first SAFBAF financial statements in 2000. This is a job that he does with great passion and dedication to this day for the last 24 years.

Johan is currently also a National Selector and has been since 2010.
